In November 2018, as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival, Empirical returned to Old Street London Underground station with our Pop-up Jazz Lounge.
This clip captures our epic closing-night performance of ‘Distraction Tactics’, the title track of our EP. ‘Distraction Tactics’ .

It was the second instalment of our innovative performance format that brings our music to new local audiences by offering the opportunity to hear live jazz outside of the usual club setting. We transformed an empty shop in the Arcade into an informal venue where, for five days and performed multiple sets each day, attracting 1,000 commuters, shoppers, local office workers and curious passers. The project was made possible by funding from the Arts Council England, The Jerwood Foundation, The Worshipful Company of Musicians, THSH Jazzlines Birmingham and the brilliant efforts of our manager Claudia Kuss-Tenzer.

In February 2016, Empirical were resident at there self-created Pop-Up Jazz Lounge in the concourse of Old Street Station.
For 6 days in Old Street Station, London, Empirical performed multiple sets at different times of day for commuters, passers-by and curious people, all free entry. They ran workshops for local schools and and even a kindergarten group!

From Empirical’s fifth studio album! 'Connection', released on Cuneiform Records in March 2016. "Driving Force" (T. Farmer) explores the profound musical connection between us. This first take of Driving Force was recorded at RAK Studios, London.
